Treasure Planet fanfic recs

Does anyone have any? Because I just watched the movie again, and after reading the Temeraire novels and Monstrous Regiment, and watching the Star Trek movie, I remembered how desperately I NEEDED Jim-at-Space-Academy fic. Officers train separately from 'common' cadets but classes are brought together during exercises, mess-hall and dormitory hijinks ensue, lifelong friendships are formed &c.

I bravely plunged into the Pit of Voles and was promptly devoured whole by Mary Sues. Not a slashfic in sight, either. It's awful and frustrating. Help, please?

back home soon

In a few hours, I will be heading for the airport, to catch the plane, to get back home, to milk the cow, that kicked the dog, that chased the cat, that . . . er, that is, to get back home.

It has been a wonderful and very relaxing holiday.

Sniff.

The Fun of Doing Comics

Recently I've been stumbling around with the whole "how do I keep this drawing comics thing fun when it is my job?' thing. I know it sounds kind of weird, because drawing comics IS fun, but once the thing that you used to do "for fun" becomes the thing you do for work ... okay, it's not like it STOPS being fun, I LOVE doing it, but it becomes something ... else. I went to school for animation, and have worked in the animation industry for a few years, and all during that time I drew comics for fun. I always thought that drawing would be something hard to keep going with once I started pursing it as a career, but animation is different enough from comics so that wasn't a problem. I have an animation friend in Ontario who I like to meet up with and talk shop whenever I'm back there visiting and he works in animation to pay the bills, and does comics on the side. When I last saw him he was drawing storyboards for an animated show, and having a hard time working on his comics. He said it was difficult to find motivation to work on his comics while he was drawing storyboards because when you storyboard "you use the same part of your brain you use for comics. It's just too similar." I kind of know how he feels now.

I love doing comics, but when I take a few hours off on the weekend, and think about the things I want to do during my off time, and how oh gosh, it'd be nice to draw some comics for fun, the minute I think that some slightly exhausted person inside me shrieks (usually in a British accent, because I have a British interior monologue) "NNNNNNOOOOO you just did that for the past EIGHTY HOUUURRRRSS!" ... and that is why I end up dreamily staring at the TV for several hours on a Saturday without my sketchbook in hand, something Past Me would be horrified at, since previously I would never sit in front of the television without a sketchbook on which to sketch furiously.

Comics are so much fun. But they are also my work. But they're fun... I want to do more of them, but I've been drawing so many pages of them the thought of picking up my pencil and drawing another is a terrible drag, and shouldn't I be doing something fun during my downtime? Something fun like drawing comics?

... it's about this time that I attempt to turn off my British interior monologue, and retreat to watching reruns of Law & Order.

Looking For Screencaps

I need some help on a drawing idea I want to work on. Does anyone have screencaps, sketches or drawings of when Fakir was a kid? I need them for a reference.

Thanks!

CRACK - Communication Break Dancer PT Style

This is a crazy crack PT parody thing I made off of a somewhat popular Japanese animation meme on NicoNico Video. (You can see an example here: Communication Break Dancer RO style ) It's basically a song about bad communication and animated with different series.

Ever since I saw it, I was dying to try it for PT characters. Granted, I only have the first verse done and I don't know if/when I'll get to the rest (I couldn't do the very beginning part - which I wanted to use Drosselmeyer for - because I don't have anything I can use to make animations that use more than one frame (and that part takes like, 8+ from the looks of it)).

But this was so fun, even if it was hella time-consuming to do by eye-balling the style and pictures without a tablet or anything. AND YES, I DID DRAW ALL OF THESE.
The timing might be a liiiittle off for a part or two, but I think I got the gist of it, overall.

Song: Communication Break Dancer
Artist:
Super Butter Dog

If you're prepared for the crack, here you go:

The lyrics I used were the first verse and the refrain, and this is the translated version:

You didn't have to get angry
You didn't have to hit
Was only trying to give a compliment and
It somehow got through twisted
Oops, I've done it
Did I say something bad?
Even though I said "I didn't mean it"
Everything just keeps going wrong
Yes, what a pity

Communication break dancer
Deke danri doo wa dee
If we can just see eye to eye
It won't come to this
Don't have to suffer like this

Hope you enjoy this short little crack piece! XD I'm sorry that it's not an AMV. I've been dying to try short animations out, so I wanted to give it a shot. [ Also, if you prefer, you can go straight to YouTube to watch it here. ]

Any feedback is more than welcome and appreciated!
Thanks for watching!

New AMV - Goodbye Brother

Hey, all~...Tory finally finished a project that she meant to dedicate to two friends of hers who recently had a birthday!...only Tory was so swamped she is TWO DAYS LATE. WAAAAAAH, I FAAAAAAIL. DDDDX B-b-but I'm now finished and so

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HALEYSINGS AND TSUBASA_HIME~!!

Anyway, the vid is another in my instrumental series, only with a slightly twisted AU version of the finale, one far more tragic than the original. right after Fakir is made to write Drosselmeyer's story, he makes the drastic decision to revert back to being a knight for, after all, what can his writing abilities do to save Ahiru from Drosselmeyer's story, particularly if Drosselmeyer continues to have power over him? The combination of audio with the music track was particularly tricky this time around, as was making the AU scenario as believable as possible with only the clips from the series and WMM, but I did the best I could. I loved using this track, though, even if I had to shorten parts, because I do very much adore The Prince of Egypt and will never think it gets the love it truly deserves. I hope y'all enjoy~! ♥

Bang Bang, Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon her head

What news? None really. Finally got the chance to play Beatles: Rock Band thanks to Shawn. It is a fine game and I recommend the experience to anyone who enjoys music games, singing, and/or the Beatles. It supports up to three mics and actually displays (and scores) harmony! :D How spiffy is that? Also one can sing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (and the rest of Abbey Road but I must shamefully admit to not being familiar with any other songs off said incredibly important album) which is just a good time in any case.

Okay, this will be the last of the book reporting. I hope it'll go quickly as it's mostly Discworld books and, when you get down to it, either you like them or you don't. These are mostly too late in the series for me to comfortably recommend them as a starting point (the series doesn't really need to be rigidly read in order, but most later books have certain prerequisites if you want to get the most out of them). If you do enjoy these novels, then there's very specific information you want to have about them, so it shouldn't take too long. If you don't, I don't really know why we're friends. Anyhow.

October 2009 Book Reviews Part 3: Discworld. )

Okay out of time AGAIN but at least I've got through last month's Discworld novels (I read more this month >_>). Will respond to comments and finish up book list next time! Currently checking out yaoi manga from the library. lol.

Later. "bang bang, Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead."

Princess Tutu Secret Santa Exchange 2009 - Assignments

PTT Secret Santa 2009

[Sorry guys, no new promo image yet.]
[info]princesstutu & Club-Tutu
Official Princess Tutu Secret Santa Exchange 2009 Assignments Post

Okay Ladies and Gentlemen!

Sign ups have ended. We have an excel spreadsheet listing all of the match ups.

We had a nice turn out this year with 51 participants.

[info]asatira has sent out the assignment notices via LJ Private Message and DA Notes to people that are exclusively DA-users. (The links should take you to your message inbox if you're logged in.)

If you have not received your assignment (or have lost the message), please comment here, and I will give you your assignment again. (Have your LJ comment email notification turned on as I will delete the comment giving you your assignment right after posting it. That way you'll have the info in your email inbox and it won't be out for everyone to see.)

The following people had LJ PMs disabled
so that [info]asatira could not send them their assignment:

[info]jupiter_star
[info]lacks_a_life
[info]moezychan

Assignment Changes: Everyone has 1 week from today to request any assignment changes, it's tough cookies after that (November 17th). If you absolutely cannot handle your SS assignment contact [info]asatira or [info]lycorne within 1 week to request an assignment change, and let us know what is forcing the switch request so we can try to not repeat the same issue. (Please keep in mind that gen or single-character-focused gifts are acceptable if your shipping preferences do not match up.)
However, I do very much discourage assignment switching. I hope that in the seasonal spirit-of-giving, our SS's do not get picky about your assignments. I spent 5 hours last night doing my best to try to match everyone up with as little conflict as I could manage for the two secret santas I'm running. (A total of 73 people. My brain hurts.)

If you want to ask your giftee questions prior to the gift-giving period, I suggest making anonymous comments in response to their surveys on the sign-ups post. Check back to see when you get questions or answers, or ask me to act as a mediator. (I'll play messenger as best I can, but please keep in mind that I have a full time job.)

Need some help~!

All day I've been searching for this Fakir fanart I dimly recall (and might have seen in an icon...?) in which Fakir is standing and peering out of the corner of his eye, smashingly dressed up in a yellow and white dress suit - and there may or may not have been tights. (Yes, I have a really helpful description to go off of). I remembered it earlier today when my friend asked for good PT fanarts, but I can't find that image. :c This is a rather lame post to spam you all with, but, help? Am I losing my mind and starting to imagine things that aren't there...?

a little update

Since I have been too lazy dilatory distracted to keep this journal up to date . . .

Life is being beautifully quiet. I am enjoying good food, knitting, and watching anime. [info]archangelbeth</a> and I have now watched through the whole of Princess Tutu, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. (I had seen it before, and was keeping my mouth firmly shut at a number of points. If you know that series, you'll know why.)

She has also finished crocheting a shawl for me, which is beautiful. Photos will follow at some point. (I am currently knitting a shawl for her.)

I also showed her a production of The Mikado yesterday. (It was the version with Eric Idle as Ko-Ko.) She enjoyed it. A lot.

Unfortunately, she is currently upstairs with a headache. Since inflicting my presence on someone with a headache seems a less than brilliant idea, I am down here checking up on my email.

(We have also finished case 2 of Phoenix Wright: Justice For All, the one with Morgan and Pearl and Ini Miney. I plan to jump to case 4, in the hopes of finishing it before I leave. After all, case 3 is entertaining, but not as good as case 4.)

And honestly, I'm down like the economy

I'm trying to get to public computers of one sort or another at least every 2-3 days now, so eventually I might catch up on things. Who knows. Back to my October reading list! (I know, I know, I go away for a year and when I come back, I decide to write really boring entries. In my defense I am trying to rebuild my old life and it was pretty dull! AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY okay, well, perhaps we didn't, but we certainly appreciate it now.)

Out of curiousity, is there anything y'all WOULD prefer me to blog about?

October 2009 Book Reviews Part 3: The Reckoning - reviews of The War of the Flowers, The Book of Unholy Mischief, and Fables comics. )

okay, I STILL don't have time to finish my book list but luckily most of the rest of them are Discworld novels (I'm on a series rereading binge since the new book came out) so I'll just list them later. Oh and the 70s amateur detective novels. Which are very smartly written and the clever writing makes up for the lack of actual detectoring.

Later. "Baby are you down down down down down?"

The Lovely Bones of Ahiru...Good GOD, that sounds awful. DX

...Well, WTF, my entry just ate itself. XD Anyway! Meeses made a new trailer to Tutu!...using the trailer to the upcoming film The Lovely Bones, based on the novel of the same name. I was hesitant to make Fakir Ray, but I just thought since he seems like the person who'd be most affected by Ahiru's death and as I use him later in the trailer, I thought he'd make more sense than Mytho for the part...even if I use Lil!Fakir to later express Buckley Salmon, Susie's little brother. XD;;; The "posturize" effect meant to express Ahiru's "in-between" world was the closest expression of what I wanted though it isn't great, and there's one little clipping problem at the very end...but otherwise, I'm rather proud of this, and I hope you enjoy it!

Susie Salmon - Ahiru
Abigail Salmon - Raestel
Jack Salmon - Charon
George Harvey - Drosselmeyer
Lynn Salmon - Edel
Lindsey Salmon - Rue
Len Fenerman - Autor
Ray Singh - Fakir

Drosselmeyer Fanfic

I wrote a fic on Drosselmeyer. Why? Well, I've always wondered why he likes tragic stories so much. I think this is one of the most creepiest stories that I have ever written.

Title: The Tale of Drosselmeyer
Rating: PG
Characters: Drosselmeyer
